Don Bosco Ashalayam is part of a national network of social work institutions which includes educational institutions, vocational and technical training centers and community empowerment projects. These institutions provide various services to young people and destitute children in India. Ashalayam is run by a band of social work professionals, volunteers and youngsters.
Ashalayam is a New Delhi based, non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, social and charitable organization registered under Societies’ Registration Act, 1860. It is an organization working with street children, neglected children, the destitute children, working children, the slum children, the refugees and other marginalized children and youth. We initially started working with a group of 25 street children in a small rented house at Uttam Nagar in 1997 and in 1999 we shifted to its present building, Don Bosco Ashalayam which has a built in facility to accommodate 150 children at a time. The children are provided with food, shelter, cloths, care, education and vocational training. Today Ashalayam reaches out to more than 2300 neglected children through street contact, residential, vocational and educational (non-formal) programmes. Ashalayam is managed with donations and contributions from generous people and organizations. All such contributions are exempted from taxation as per the provision of 80 G of Income Tax Act, 1961. Ashalayam is also authorized to receive foreign contribution as per the provisions of FCRA, 1976.
